Step Two: Turn your resolution into a practical action. We pledge to support Lewisham Borough of Sanctuary with some of the following (please note these are suggested actions, you are not committing to doing all of them, and you are more than welcome to invent your own!):*
- Display one of our “We welcome refugees, asylum seekers and migrants” signs outside your building or office (for organisations)
- Invite an asylum seeker, refugee or other migrant to come to speak of their experience to your organisation or to a group of organisations in your area.
- Offer volunteer placements for suitably skilled refugees, asylum seekers and other sanctuary seekers (for organisations)
- Offer meeting spaces to sanctuary seeker community groups (for organisations)
- Fundraise/Donate to Lewisham Borough of Sanctuary or a charity that supports refugees, asylum seekers such as Lewisham Refugee and Migrant Network, AFRIL and more (see website for more)
- Publicise Borough of Sanctuary, Refugee Week and other refugee events within your community
- Take part in Lewisham Migration Forum meetings and Refugee Week
- Take time to learn about the issues affecting refugees and migrants in my community and look for ways to support them
- Encourage any community groups you may be a part of to pledge to support Lewisham Borough of Sanctuary and to make their space a place of sanctuary for refugees and migrants
- Spend time volunteering at a charity that supports refugees such as Lewisham Food Bank (see website for more)
- Keep an eye out for other local campaigns you can support
- Publicise your support of the pledge and encourage others to sign up
